The article published in the current issue of the European Respiratory Journal (ERJ) by Cai et al. [1] reveals the daunting task of dealing with the enormous number of cases of lung nodules that can be detected by computed tomography (CT) of the chest.

The widespread adoption of computed tomography in routine clinical practice combined with the advent of lung cancer screening has led to the detection of vast quantities of lung nodules in need of work-up and follow-up
